Obama And ACORN
![]()
On ACORN’s website, they describe the organization as ACORN as
the nation’s largest grassroots community organization of low- and moderate-income people with over 400,000 member families organized into more than 1,200 neighborhood chapters in 110 cities across the country. Since 1970, ACORN has been building community organizations that are committed to social and economic justice, and won victories on thousands of issues of concern to our members, through direct action, negotiation, legislative advocacy and voter participation. ACORN helps those who have historically been locked out become powerful players in our democratic system.
ACORN is the place where Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama gets his community organizer title from. During his time with ACORN, Obama sat on the boards of two charitable foundations, the Woods Fund and the Joyce Foundation. Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers also sat on the Woods Foundation board with Obama. You can read more about some of the other work they did together in my last blog.
According to the New York Times, Obama’s memberships on those foundation boards, allowed him to help direct tens of millions of dollars in grants to various liberal organizations, including Chicago ACORN, whose endorsement Obama sought and won in his State Senate race. ACORN maintains both political and non-partisan arms. Obama not only sought and received the endorsement of Acorn’s political arm in his local campaigns, he recently accepted Acorn’s endorsement for the presidency, in pursuit of which he reminded Acorn officials of his long-standing ties to the group.
ACORN forces governments and businesses, by threat of lawsuits and harassment, to support their agenda of obtaining the maximum services from government, coercing corporations to finance their projects, and forcing banks to approve high-risk loans. Additionally, ACORN works on voter registration issues and is suspected in mass voter fraud. Guess who ACORN hired to help this happen? Barack Obama. This presidential campaign, Obama gave ACORN 800,000 dollars for endorsing him. I thought they are “non-partisan.”
There are many ongoing investigations of of the group for voter fraud. This year’s elections aren’t the first time ACORN has been charged with fraud. Here’s just a small list of some of the fraud ACORN committed since 1998. If you look at the map of states linked to ACORN fraud, you’ll notice they’re all swing states. Right now in Florida, 30,000 jailed felons are registered, and are voting. The right to vote is supposed to be taken away when you’re jailed. In Nevada, the entire Dallas Cowboys football team was found to be written in numerous times onto voter registrations by ACORN members.
Florida’s elections chief, Secretary of State Kurt Browning, acknowledged his staff has failed to remove thousands of ineligible felons from the voting rolls because of a shortage of workers and a crush of new registrations. Browning also said he was not surprised by the findings. “I’m kind of shocked that the number is as low as it is,” he said. ACORN is fighting for the prisoners right to vote.
Another thing this organization does, is help low-income families get housing. That’s what Obama helped ACORN do. ACORN has been suing banks and painting them out as racist if the didn’t give mortgages to people with low income. Many financial experts say this was a major contributing factor of our current housing crisis.
In my opinion, there are just way too many shady things going on this election season, and Barack Obama is somehow connected to all of it. Instead of looking into the ties Obama has with ACORN, or a domestic terrorist, the mainstream media (another thing that concerns me) and the rest of Obama’s supporters, will continue to be in denial, or somehow attempt to equivocate.

Look. The Bush administration has been out to get Acorn since 2004. Remember the flap about the district attorneys? That was the result of the administration using the justice department to try and counter ACORN’s success in registering legitimate votors. Despite their massive efforts, along with a sympathetic ear from numerous Bush appointed federal judges, the best they’ve been able to do is prosecute a handful of rank and file workers for registration fraud. What does that suggest? I’ll tell you, it suggests that the assertion that ACORN facilitates large scale voter fraud is completely bogus. Surely if there was a hint of truth to any of it, the republican vendetta against them would have born more fruit.
As for trying to pin the financial crisis on them, more BS. Some of the largest mortgage defaults are in areas (a high end condo development in Florida, Orange County, CA) that have nothing at all to do with low income home ownership. And, of course, you can’t be honest and ignore the financial engineering that turned mortgages into the foundation for ridiculous pyramids of debt. If a structural engineer tried erecting such a risky structure, he’d loose his license, get sued, and might face criminal charges.
I realize though that details like those just get in the way of a good smear campaign. So in that spirit I’ll just point out that John McCain was all to happy to show up to be honored by ACORN a couple of years ago.

What does that have to do with the 17 current fraud investigations going on right now as live in denial?

“Look. The Bush administration has been out to get Acorn since 2004….What does that suggest?”
It suggests that Obama, who worked closely with ACORN, even before 2004, still has ties to them. They are supposed to be non-partisan. They endorse him, and accepted 800,000 dollars from him.
“What does that suggest?”“
State Year Details

MI 2004 The Detroit Free Press reported that “overzealous or unscrupulous campaign workers in several Michigan counties are under investigation for voter-registration fraud, suspected of attempting to register nonexistent people or forging applications for already-registered voters.” ACORN-affiliate Project Vote was one of two groups suspected of turning in the documents.

NC 2004 North Carolina officials investigated ACORN for submitting fake voter registration cards.

2004 Reading’s Director of Elections received calls from numerous individuals complaining that ACORN employees deliberately put inaccurate information on their voter registration forms. The Berks County director of elections said voter fraud was “absolutely out of hand,” and added: “Not only do we have unintentional duplication of voter registration but we have blatant duplicate voter registrations.” The Berks County deputy director of elections added that ACORN was under investigation by the Department of Justice.
TX 2004 ACORN turned in the voter registration form of David Young, who told reporters “The signature is not my signature. It’s not even close.” His social security number and date of birth were also incorrect.
VA 2005 In 2005, the Virginia State Board of Elections admonished Project Vote and ACORN for turning in a significant number of faulty voter registrations. An audit revealed that 83% of sampled registrations that were rejected for carrying false or questionable information were submitted by Project Vote. Many of these registrations carried social security numbers that exist for other people, listed non-existent or commercial addresses, or were for convicted felons in violation of state and federal election law.
In a letter to ACORN, the State Board of Elections reported that 56% of the voter registration applications ACORN turned in were ineligible. Further, a full 35% were not submitted in a timely manner, as required by law. The State Board of Elections also commented on what appeared to be evidence of intentional voter fraud. “Additionally,” they wrote, “information appears to have been altered on some applications where information given by the applicant in one color ink has been scratched through and re-entered in another color ink. Any alteration of a voter registration application is a Class 5 Felony in accordance with § 24.2-1009 of the Code of Virginia.”
WA 2007 Three ACORN employees pleaded guilty, and four more were charged, in the worst case of voter registration fraud in Washington state history. More than 2,000 fraudulent voter registration cards were submitted by the group during a voter registration drive.
WI 2004 The district attorney’s office investigated seven voter registration applications Project Vote employees filed in the names of people who said the group never contacted them. Former Project Vote employee Robert Marquise Blakely told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he had not met with any of the people whose voter registration applications he signed, “an apparent violation of state law,” according to the paper.
Not counting the 17 states now investigating their fraud.
